Now, this is a story all about how
My life got flipped-turned upside down
And I'd like to take a minute
Just sit right there
I'll tell you how I became the poor people mechanic of Montreal

In Montreal-East born and raised
In the basement was where I spent most of my days
Chillin' out maxin' relaxin' all cool
And all shootin some comments while reading Oppo
When a couple of people who were up to saving
Started making trouble with my time off
I got in one verbal fight and I thought they would be scared
They said 'Bro, I need a favor, can you help my friend?'

I whistle for a beer and when it came near

The label said Guinness and it had a widget in the bottom of the can
If anything I could say that this beer was great
But I thought 'Nah, forget it' - 'Yo bro, fuck your car!'

I pulled up to my house about 7 or 8
And I yelled to the neighbor 'Yo homes how's it going?'
I looked at my garage
I was finally there
To sit on my Miata's seat as the guy with no more hair to fuckin' pull anymore!

Really??? It's fuckin' 1:20 AM and you call me to help some guy with some air bag issue on his Mini Cooper that you don't even know???? Yes that just happened to me! And my number was given to this random guy! This friend....excuse me, this nuisance made enough shitty stunts like this where I had to find and fix the issue after agreeing. This is the last time. I had enough, I got 3 days off for a reason! Not to work again and again on shitty cars especially when the Mini Cooper owner had all the time in his life to go to the fuckin dealer and fix the issue for free because it was on an extended warranty due to MAJOR complaints about the airbag issue...*rant off*

There are two things in life you never ever fix for other people: cars and computers. No one will ever leave you alone after you work on either.

My pride wouldn't let me do this...So far I told the guy to go see the dealership first and if they don't wanna pass it on the warranty, then i'll see if there's a way on the web. If not, I can do nothing. I think i'll skip to I can do nothing part.

Seriously though, you gotta put your foot down. If they're not one of your close friends or they're not paying you well tell them to take a hike. It's something you got to deal with early or people will never stop asking.

I did it a couple of times. There was a guy that wanted me to do his timing chain change on a Infini and said that he had all the tool I need. I said "Good then, do it yourself with the help of google. Bye.". I will put my foot down when necessary but I think I'll put my foot down to everything now. People are like blood suckers. They keep sucking til you got no blood. I learned that hard this summer.

If they aren't willing to pay you close to what a shop charges per hour tell them to go fuck off. I'll do work on my friends and families cars but there are jobs I just won't do for anyone. If someone wants me to do brakes I tell them its $100 per axle plus parts. Brakes are easy to do but that doesn't' mean you need to accommodate every single person that is looking to be cheap.

I would also have a stern talking with the person who gave your number out to a random guy. That is just plain fucking wrong.

I don't ask much on close friends. Others, I charge much more but still a bit under the shop price on easy jobs. Hard jobs I just refer them to my mechanic.

Friends = beer and if they are somewhat handy, company. Some people are just super cheap and will be willing to blame you for them not taking care of their car. If its someone I don't know at all I generally won't touch the car. If it has anything to do with the airbags I won't touch the car. People can just be terrible and are looking for someone to blame for their own stupidity. . . I'm kinda glad I got out of wrenching for a living but the market kind of pushed me on that one. . .

That! If a piece gets broken, it's your responsibility to fix it too. This kind of thing happens sometimes. This is probably my last day off work i'll do. Fuck it, they'll have to find another mechanic.

Ever since I started learning the trade a year ago, people have started trying to freeload me. The most I'll do is just diagnose a code on the ECU, for now anyway. These people often ask me about car advice too.
